I wasn’t born a Real Estate mogul. I was born to poor parents in the deep south. They had no home, no savings, and no real understanding of how to change their circumstances. They weren’t bad people; they just didn’t think there were opportunities available to them.
I mean, I wasn’t really sure what opportunities were available to me either. Growing up in the segregated south, my exposure to successful, black role models was non-existent and the ceiling was consistently set low for young African Americans almost all over the country.
But I was ambitious and determined.
I didn’t quite yet know how to capitalize on my dreams, but I worked hard and read every piece of literature on business and finance that I could get my hands on.
I accepted Jesus into my heart, got married to my wonderful husband shortly after, and together we bought our first home in 1987.
That was the first tipped domino in my story. With just this one single purchase, we learned how to leverage our home to create passive income and a steady stream of cash flow.
We soon moved to Baltimore where our children could grow up in a community of successful, educated, and motivated black people and repeated our process.
And then we did it again. And then again.
Years later we have successfully bought, sold, rehabbed, and managed over $50 million in single-family houses and multi-unit apartment buildings in Paterson, NJ, Baltimore, MD, Atlanta, GA and Jacksonville, FL.
Today I’m buying an average of 2-4 houses per month and have over 100 properties in my residential portfolio creating wealth and passive income for my family.
